Internal Audit Unit

Introduction:
The Internal Audit Unit is a unit that is responsible for advising to assist other departments within the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children - the Department of Community Development to perform their duties effectively.

Audit in the Department of Community Development involves the Ministry Headquarters, eight (8) Community Development Training Institutes, Kisangara Social Welfare College, 17 Elderly Homes, Five (5) Children Retention Homes, Kurasini Children Home and Irambo Approved School.

Purpose of the Unit:
The Internal Audit Unit responds to the audit on the implementation of the responsibilities of the Ministry as well as the management of the Ministry's resources and to advise the Permanent Secretary focused on improving the services of the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children - Department of Community Development to achieve the Objectives.

Unit Structure:
The unit is headed by the Chief Audit Executive (CAE) supported by five Internal Auditors.

Internal Audit Unit roles:
The Internal Audit Unit is guided by the Internal Audit Charter and has the following responsibilities: -
• Evaluate internal control systems and advise the Permanent Secretary on improvements.
• Plan and conduct auditing on risks based areas that will result in failure to reach the planned objectives of the Ministry.
• Support the Ministry's leadership to improve performance so that the objectives can be achieved by providing a range of advice as needed.
• Inspect and advise the Ministry on implementation and compliance with the Act, Regulations, Procedures and various Government guidelines.
• Inspect and advise the Permanent Secretary on the use, maintenance and management of all resources of the Ministry.
• Inspect and advise on the performance and implementation of the responsibilities of the Ministry.
• Other functions directed by the Permanent Secretary.
